DIY Back Yard, Garden Patio Cobblestone Paver Project by Kevin Brandon
(See videos below)
After almost exactly a year (I was making stones at my leisure), I have finished my 250 square foot patio. I used your 6x6x1.5 inch and 4x6x1.5 inch castle stone cobblestone molds. I also ended up buying some 12x12x1.5 inch rocks at home depot. I would have bought your molds, but I decided I wanted them very late in the project and didn't want to have to extend the finish date a few more months just to make the 50 or 60 that I needed. I found after making about 1000 stones with your molds that my stones were much higher quality than the ones I bought at Home Depot - although, the texture was a little more rock like on their stones, and more smooth on my stones. I was very meticulous about vibrating my stones after I poured them to make sure there were no bug holes. But the ones from Home Depot contained many bug holes, and I had to be very picky with each rock I choose from them.
I ended up using Techniseal's polymeric sand for the finishing, and so far, I'm very happy with the outcome.
Anyway, I thought you might enjoy a little photo album showing my progress over the last year as well as our installation video which is on YouTube.
ANALYSIS OF PROJECT COST: All of the Paver Stone made by Kevin with our molds probably came to about 200 square feet of Cobblestone Pavers. I based this total on the amount of square feet (250) of the entire patio, less the 50 square feet of 12x12 Home Depot pavers. Based on that figure, the 200 square feet Kevin made should have cost him no more than $0.60 a square foot in raw materials, or about $120.00 for all of the stones he made. Based on a Home Depot cost per 12x12x1.5 Paver of $1.27 plus tax, the 50 pavers he purchased to do about 20% of the patio, cost him at least $67.50.
Rather than try to squeeze all of the photos Kevin submitted to us, I have converted them all into a short video to illustrate the work that went into making this beautiful patio. GREAT JOB GUYS!
